Please visit:About Us

Through inspiring and caring teachers, and in a physically, emotionally and spiritually safe coeducational environment, St Leonard’s College provides an exemplary innovative education for its students, enriched by the traditions of its heritage.

Our vision is to provide all students with an education for life. We foster in young people the personal qualities necessary for lifelong learning.

Like many other independent schools we offer a diverse curriculum, delivered by outstanding teachers in modern facilities, and complemented by extensive cocurricular opportunities. None of these claims are unique to St Leonard’s College. Why then, are we the choice of more parents than any other independent school in Bayside? The answer lies in our approach to educating young people: an approach that considers the whole person – head, heart and soul – and develops the skills and attributes necessary to live as well-rounded, thoughtful and responsible members of society.

Facilities

Our state-of-the-art facilities include well-resourced libraries, music and art centres, multi-purpose halls and sporting facilities such as the Hawkes Sports Centre with indoor pool, aerobics room and weights room.

2020 saw the opening of a world-class performing arts centre, systems engineering centre, Senior School cafeteria, along with a purpose-built Year 12 centre and exam space.
The College also has a dedicated outdoor environmental centre, Camp Ibis, located on the Gippsland Lakes.

Curriculum

St Leonard's College was the first Victorian school to offer students the choice of either the VCE or IBDP as pathways to tertiary education. A broad academic curriculum is offered across all age groups. Subjects available include DigiSTEM, mathematics, science, LOTE (French, Chinese and Spanish), English, music, information and communications technology, and a wide range of humanities, social science and commerce subjects. The College is also accredited to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.

Sport

The majority of sports and outdoor activities are available at St Leonard’s College along with gymnastics, karate, tennis, yoga, basketball, netball, sports aerobics, cheer sports, cycling, surf lifesaving, sailing, kayaking, triathlon and adventure racing. The College takes part in mid-week, inter-school sports competitions through the Association of Coeducational Schools, leaving weekends free for family activities, other events and local community sports teams.

Cocurricular activities

St Leonard’s College provides a comprehensive cocurricular program as an integral part of our broad educational offering. A wide variety of activities are offered to enable students to develop interests and skills that will enrich their lives now and into the future. Each activity is carefully and considerately designed to further each student’s intellectual, personal, physical, social, and emotional growth and development.
We are renowned for our excellent theatre productions, musical performances, and quick-thinking debaters. Our sports teams have enjoyed success across a wide range of pursuits and opportunities to experience the great outdoors are offered at Camp Ibis, our permanent, waterfront campsite on the Banksia Peninsula. We are particularly proud of the contribution of our students to a range of social justice and philanthropic causes. Through fundraising, offering their service, and raising awareness, our students are active locally, nationally and internationally.

Student Wellbeing

Our academic programs, cocurricular activities, teaching staff and facilities exist for one purpose: to support each and every student to be the best they can be. Our strong pastoral care program assists students to become successful lifelong learners. We help young people develop the confidence and emotional resilience to take advantage of life’s opportunities and overcome its challenges. An innovative mentoring program also runs throughout a student’s life at the College, from their first day of school to their final exam preparation in year 12.
