Penola Catholic College is committed to excellence in the education of the whole person. Our aim is to develop in our students a thirst for knowledge, and a desire to make a difference in the world.
We are a vibrant, exciting, co-educational community, situated on two campuses. Students are educated in the Catholic tradition where the Gospel values are at the heart of our practices. Our College Patron, Saint Mary MacKillop inspires all we do.
The essence of our Philosophy is simple. It is to ensure that the students in our care are nurtured in the development of their social, physical spiritual and academic needs to maximise their potential, so that they may take up their rightful places in society.
We aspire to be a community of learners where every person is welcomed and has a sense of belonging.
We aim to provide an empowering and enriching environment where all members of our College community can celebrate their diversity in an atmosphere of tolerance, justice and friendship.
The College has an ongoing commitment to achieving excellence in teaching and learning through the provision of high level pastoral care, support services and state of the art facilities.
Our teaching and learning environment is rich in challenges and experiences to inspire, encourage and engage our students.
We offer a broad and comprehensive curriculum, which includes, in the junior years, strong early Literacy and Numeracy Programs, student laptop Program at Years 7 - 9 and an extensive Elective Program at Years 9 and 10.
Enhanced and accelerated studies are available for highly able students in a range of areas across the year levels including: Mathematics, English and Languages.
Our Senior Programs include an extensive range of VCE offerings including VET subjects and VCAL, allowing students to design their individual Pathways to University or TAFE, Tertiary Studies and the World of Work.
A must in the 21st Century is the inclusion of Intercultural Literacy. This modern phenomenon requires us to engage in open, cross-cultural exchanges where one’s language preferences or attitudes are acknowledged and openly discussed. Such initiatives we believe help us to reflect on the true makeup of our Penola Catholic College community and are essential elements in seeking world harmony and peace.
The Co-curricular programmes at Penola Catholic College are designed to expose students to a variety of experiences and work to complement the mainstream curriculum. We are proud to offer over 50 co-curricular activities. Students can participate in leadership development, social justice programs, drama, various choral and musical ensembles, science, debating, numerous sporting activities and many other programs.
Students are provided with the best possible facilities. Historical and modern buildings blend graciously together within pleasant surroundings and well maintained grounds. Facilities include: Computer laboratories with the latest desktop computers, classrooms with electronic whiteboards, Educational Resource Centres, Food Technology areas, modern Science and Language laboratories, ovals, sporting facilities, and a recently completed state of the art Performing Arts Centre housing a performance area and instrumental tuition rooms.
Pastoral care at Penola Catholic College focuses upon the development of the whole person. Student support and pastoral care structures are highly developed and cover the areas of faith and personal development, counselling and careers advice.
Transition Programs are designed to support new students entering the school to settle quickly and happily into their new environment.
The services provided by our Educational Psychologists, our Chaplains and Home School Liaison Officer are additional ways we support the wider needs of our community.
