Welcome

Welcome to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School, Prahran East.
Our school community is a happy, friendly and welcoming place where your child will be nurtured to reach full potential through curriculum that is personalised and engaging.

We are committed to educating the whole child – spiritually, intellectually, physically, socially, emotionally and creatively.

At Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School, we aim to develop the attitudes and skills which will equip the children to participate fully in the world of the 21st century.

Learning Diversity

Learning diversity refers to the infinite variety of life experiences and attributes a child brings to their formal learning. Educators support all to flourish by intervening as early as possible to meet the individual needs and abilities of each student.
This commitment to an inclusive pedagogy upholds the rights of all to be:
Welcomed
Valued
Acknowledged
Actively engaged in education

We believe that children learn best when they are active participants in their own learning. The school caters for individual differences and believes that children should proceed at individual rates and be successful in what they do. We build the expectation that each of us has the potential to contribute to the development of our changing world.

Vision

To prepare our students for life’s future challenges.
Our Lady of Lourdes is a Catholic primary school that is welcoming and dynamic. We believe that a faith-filled, rich learning and teaching environment will support the growth of the whole person. Our curriculum fosters inquiry and develops a range of skills and knowledge to empower each child to reach his/her potential. We recognise the unique qualities of all members of the community and embrace our diversity and strive to prepare our students for life’s future challenges in a spirit of cooperation.

Student Voice

Student Voice involves student directed learning with teachers acting as facilitators rather than dictators in the classroom; students have input in their learning and provide teachers with ongoing feedback through many avenues. Student Voice develops children as confident, empowered students who are responsible for their own behaviour and learning and who have a positive impact on their classroom, school and environment.

Extra-Curricular

The students at OLOL are given the opportunity to take part in a range of Extra-Curricular activities, both in and out of school time:
GARDENING.
The Garden Club meets at lunch time, where interested students work with Miss Jackson around the school to improve, care for, plant and nurture our gardens.
MUSIC
We work with ABC Music Group to arrange individual instrumental lessons for students. The goal of ABC’s instrumental opportunities is to provide high quality and affordable music lessons in a fun learning environment, whilst developing a strong musical foundation for students.
CHOIR
Choir engages students in a different way to the classroom program and offers positive experiences which raise self-esteem. Singing is one of the most important music activities in schools as recognised by educators and musicians alike.
CIRCUS
Carnival Fitness provides Fitness through Circus. We are proud of our method of delivering safe, fun and challenging workshops. Our staff are highly experienced with a wide range of Circus and performance skills as well as experience teaching in a Care centre or school environment. ???
HIP HOP
Hip Hop is a dance style that evolved from a variety of forms including jazz, rock, tap and American and Latino music. Hip Hop is a very energetic form of dancing and dance steps require skill and experience to perfect. Dancers practise a lot in order to master basic steps and movements that appear simple when performed.
CHESS
Chess is an engaging activity that helps develop students' critical thinking skills. Evidence shows that chess improves problem solving, decision making and lateral thinking. Chess club runs at lunchtimes once a week.

Student Leadership

Students at OLOL have the opportunity to take on many leadership roles. In addition to our School Captains, Year 5 and 6 students are also able to apply for a variety of other positions, including Faith Leaders, Library Captains, STEMS Captains and Environmental Captains.

Our Student Representative Council (SRC) is comprised of two elected members from each class. They meet regularly to make decisions about a variety of aspects of our school and they represent and report to their classes.
