About The Armidale School (TAS)

The Armidale School (TAS) is an independent, co-educational, Anglican day and boarding school located in Armidale on the New England tablelands of northern New South Wales, Australia.
TAS is one of nine members of the Athletic Association of the Great Public Schools of New South Wales (AAGPS), and the only one located outside the Sydney metropolitan area.

There is a fundamental belief at TAS that every student can, and deserves to, experience the kind of success that promotes self esteem, purpose in life and confidence to tackle new challenges. Whether it be music, drama, sport, service or adventure activities, it is the business of the School to help find and support each student's involvement in worthwhile and personally important endeavours.

Individual Academic Focus

TAS values and promotes individual academic performance and effort from Pre-Kindy to HSC level.
Our Junior School, an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme school nurtures individual curiosity and the foundation of inquiry-based learning. TAS also offers the IB Middle Years Programme in Middle School (Years 6-8), which has its own academic precinct. Our Stage 5 (Years 9 and 10) Electives program offers a choice from around 80 semester-long courses while for the HSC students have one of the broadest subject offerings of any regional school in NSW and are supported in managing the expectations of achievement, responsibility and independence.

Boarding at TAS

With almost 130 years experience in boarding, TAS is a leader in residential education. Almost half of our students in Middle and Senior School are boarders, giving the school a genuine residential culture that is the envy of many of our peers. A new state-of-the-art boarding house opened in 2018 with all others being significantly refurbished.
Specialist academic support gives the boarding students at TAS a real advantage, as well as an active and rich social and recreational life.
From rising time until lights out, the life of a boarder is an active and fulfilling one, with age-appropriate routines designed to help our boys and girls flourish academically, physically, socially and spiritually.

Leadership, Service and Adventure

TAS believes that developing the heart and mind together contributes to self-confidence, responsibility, resilience, and character development. Our outdoor education philosophy is key to this. A hallmark of TAS is our rich Leadership, Service and Adventure program, which challenges students to extend themselves and their expectations of what they can achieve. Activities such as cadets (TAS had one of the oldest cadet units in Australia), surf life saving and Rural Fire Service are complemented by service trips and expeditions in Australia and overseas.

Outstanding facilities and resources

Our facilities are the envy of many larger schools, and include The Michael Hoskins Creative Arts Centre which incorporates a 240-seat theatre, film production studio, and specialist drama and art classrooms; an indoor 25m heated swimming pool; six sporting ovals and eight all-weather tennis courts, five refurbished boarding houses and large areas of green space.

Global opportunities

TAS is a member of Round Square, a global organisation of more than 180 schools that share similar values. This association allows TAS to foster relationships with other member schools through service, exchange, and leadership opportunities, both in Australia and overseas.
