OUR PHILOSOPHY

Ruyton aspires to give each girl an opportunity to learn and grow so that she achieves educational excellence and personal fulfilment. Ruyton seeks to provide a supportive environment enabling its girls to demonstrate that:
• As individuals they are confident, resourceful and resilient
• As learners they are intellectually curious, versatile and can work both independently and collaboratively
• As members of the community they practise tolerance and compassion
• As leaders they act with integrity, self assurance, initiative and an awareness of the value of service
• And as citizens they are enterprising, creative and have a commitment to community service, sustainability and a global society.
The size of Ruyton makes it possible for each girl to be acknowledged and valued and for her individual needs to be supported. At Ruyton there is a sense of belonging to a community where teachers, girls and their families work together and value each other. Self-esteem and confidence are fundamental to each girl’s personal, social and academic success.

PROGRAMMES

Many specialist programmes are offered across our ELC, Junior and Senior Schools: including Personalised Learning, Leadership, the Co-Ordinate Programme with nearby Trinity Grammar School (all boys), Specialist Maths, Science and IT, and Languages (French and Chinese). CURRICULUM, EXTENSION & SCHOLARSHIPS

The curriculum at Ruyton is wide-ranging, challenging and creative, with an emphasis on Personalised Learning. We continue to develop innovative programmes to expand the learning experience for girls and are committed to utilising information technology within the classroom. Broad extension opportunities for selected and highly able girls are offered through our innovative Gifted & Talented Programme in Years 5-8, followed by the Ruyton Master Scholar Programme in Senior School. Academic, Music and General Excellence Scholarships are offered in Years 5-8.

FACILITIES

Ruyton recognises the importance of providing the best possible learning environment for its students and staff. There are two new state-of-the-art learning centres: a Library Resource Centre (IT/library facilities, theatrette, screening room and drama studio) and the Prue Gillies Building (art, craftc, photography, general classrooms and the Year 12 Centre – The Penthouse).
In 2008, an exciting Aquatic Centre opened to complete a comprehensive Physical Education, Health & Wellbeing facility.
In 2011, our Junior School Centre for Creativity will open. Here, all our Junior School girls will experience a creativity-based education as the focus of their 21st Century learning.

ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

As the top independent girls' school in 2008 and 2009, Ruyton’s results are exceptional and consistent. In 2011, 46% of girls received ATAR scores of 90 and above, with eight perfect study scores of 50.

The National Trust-listed Henty House, set in landscaped gardens, provides a beautiful and gracious backdrop to our lively and active campus. Our ELC, Junior and Senior Schools are linked together on the same site, creating a strong sense of collective and community spirit across every Year Level. Ruyton is a happy school with a special ambience. Girls develop their confidence here, and it shows.
