St. Joseph’s School Mount Isa is a vibrant, multicultural Catholic school with an enrolment of approx. 400 students. It was first established in 1932 by the Sisters of St. Josephs and it has grown to be one of Mount Isa’s finest schools for academic, sporting and cultural excellence. |

St. Joseph’s is a two stream school providing an excellent academic education as well as specialist teaching in Music, Physical Education, Cultural Studies (Languages other than English) and literature. The school also has an effective behaviour management program that rewards positive behaviour and enforces consequences for inappropriate behaviour. |

In 2008 the school in conjunction with Good Shepherd Catholic College has introduced pastoral care, sporting and enrichment programs for Year 6 &7 students. |

All levels of student ability are catered for at St. Joseph’s with the Learning Enrichment team and KIA (Kid’s Intelligence Agency) providing support and enrichment programs for the students. The school follows the THRASS program for Teaching Handwriting, Reading and Spelling Skills and combines this with the First Steps literacy program. The PAL program is also available for students requiring extra phonic support and practise. Three specialist teachers work alongside classroom teachers and offer lessons in Library Literature, Music, Cultural Studies and Physical Education. |

The school boasts a state of the art library facility and a modern, well equipped Prep unit. The school also has large well maintained playing field, as well as many shady areas for children and families to gather under. Recently the school opened the Penola Centre, a multi purpose sport and musical facility. |

St. Joseph’s staff and families are very active in the community and the school regularly enters local competitions, eisteddfods and interschool sporting events. The P&F and Ladies Auxiliary work in close partnership with the school and parish to provide support for new families, social activities and fundraising. |
