Brisbane Montessori School is 30 years old and is the only Montessori Primary school in Brisbane, located in the western suburb of Fig Tree Pocket.
There are currently 3 distinct areas of the school. A Birth – 3 program which includes programs with parents and a program without parents (from 15 months). A Junior School which offers 3 – 6 years classrooms, without parents. Our Primary School has 6 – 9 years classrooms (Lower Primary) and 9 – 12 years classrooms (Upper Primary). We are currently exploring an Adolescent Community for 12+ years students.
The school enjoys a magnificent campus on the banks of the Brisbane River. Within this rural environment the children and staff enjoy extensive grounds and includes excellent outdoor learning environments, vegetable gardens and beautiful play and picnic areas. |

A 2007 Independent Schools Queensland survey showed that 72% of parents choose independent education as they felt it was the best preparation for their child. A Montessori school understands that education must prepare the child for life and that school represents the key time for developing life strategies.
Research carried out in 2006* showed that Montessori students “performed better on the executive function, which is the ability to adapt to changing and complex problems”. The design and delivery of the Montessori curriculum, the unique preparedness of the environment and groupings of multi-aged children, allows for a unique and rich learning environment; one where each child will develop key strategies for dealing with life at a time when the important foundations of the personality are being built. |

A four year old child has very different needs to that of a 8 year old or a 12 year old and within Montessori schools you will see the significant differences in our learning environments. Each one is scientifically designed and changes to meet the needs of your child, progressing from hands-on through to abstract learning.
Each classroom environment belongs to the children and all materials and equipment match the child’s age and physical and cognitive development. At Brisbane Montessori you are welcome to observe in the classroom or attend our Journey Programs to become more knowledgeable about this unique learning experience. |

A resilient child is one that succeeds in life. School is the second most influential environment on a child, after the home. The 2006 research* also indicated that Montessori students, by the age of 12, “are more creative and better able to resolve social problems”.
The unique developmentally-based multi-age grouping allows children to form cohesive and cooperative communities; a safe place to support each other in the development of important life skills. Children within these communities show a surprising ability to self-regulate and have opportunities to extend benevolence to others. |

Montessori trained staff have an intimate understanding of how children develop and learn. They hold a deep respect for, and trust in, the child’s potential and know that it is the child that should be the centre of the child’s learning, and not the teacher. Our highly trained staff understand that it is the child that creates the adult and that it is our responsibility to ensure the best possible environments for the children. Our role is to chaperone each child in their own unique development. |
