Educating Boys since 1880

Located just 12 kms from the centre of Sydney, Saint Ignatius' College, Riverview is a Catholic, day and full-time boarding school in the Jesuit tradition, educating boys in Years 5-12. The College is fortunate to have spacious grounds covering over 110 acres on picturesque Burns Bay and the Lane Cove River.

At Riverview, each boy is provided with opportunities to discover the talents God has given him and use them "for the greater glory of God". We strive for excellence in all things, as is evident in the College motto - 'Quantum Potes Tantum Aude' (As much as you can do, so much dare to do) - which challenges our students to go beyond mediocrity and achieve their full potential.

The Middle School - Years 5-8

Each boy in Years 5-8 belongs to a Homeroom of approximately 25 boys where the teacher in charge is directly concerned with the formation of each student. The Homeroom teacher regularly meets with each individual student and provides detailed feedback to parents each semester.

The Senior School - Years 9-12

The House System, established at Riverview in 1983, currently comprises 12 Houses, each with approximately 70 boys from Years 9-12. As boys belong to the same House for their entire time at Riverview, the Housemaster develops a special relationship with each boy and his family.

Co-Curriculum

A member of the Sydney GPS group of schools, Riverview's proud traditions are evident in many areas: from debating and drama to rowing and rugby Riverview offers boys the chance to participate in a wide variety of sports, drama, music and other activities.

In keeping with the Ignatian philosophy of 'educating the whole person', participation in the sporting program is mandatory in all years and musical activities are required for all boys in the Middle School.

Boarding at Riverview

Having been established as a boarding school for country boys, boarders have always been an integral part of the College and today add to its rich diversity. Today's boarding population of 330 boarders is comprised of approximately 70% country boys with a growing expat enrolment .

Riverview currently offers the only boys' full-time Boarding House in NSW as we do not offer day or weekly boarding. This gives parents peace of mind as to their sons' weekend activities and promotes a sense of community amongst the boarders.

Boarding places are available to boys in Years 6-12 who live in boarding houses according to their age group. For more information on Boarding, please contact the Director of Boarding, Mr Mark McGinnity, on 0417 216 741

International Students

Riverview is pleased to be able to offer places to international students in accordance with CRICOS requirements. International students will be accepted as boarders only and must have a guardian who resides in Sydney.

Riverview Boys win 3 Medals in 2010 National Chinese Eisteddfod

The College's proud tradition in Chinese has seen 3 of our students achieve excellent results in the annual National Chinese Eisteddfod held in Sydney in May.

3 Silver medals were awarded across two age groups, from 11-16. The event is designed to promote Chinese language and cultural awareness in Australia. None of the Riverview medal-winners have native Chinese-speaking parents. This makes the competition especially difficult, and the boys represented the College very well.

The results contribute to the good reputation of our school, giving the boys and their teachers more confidence in learning and teaching the Chinese language.
